Love in Lesbos
A.A-13
This piece has a very simple structure: Two erotic kneeling female figures are set on a 16 x 15 cm malachite base with diamond and gold highlights.
The piece is supported by several small golden silver busts of naked women.
Malachite is a fairly common copper carbonate, used since ancient times as ornament, or as a pigment. The convex base has a flat bottom and the veins on the mineral have been carved horizontaly, reminiscent of sea waves or flowing clouds. Malachite has sometimes been used in poetry as a symbol of wealth or fantasy; for example in Rubén Darío's well-known poem titled “A Margarita Debayle.”
